Child Nutrition

The Austin Achieve public school system proudly participates in the federally assisted meal programs of the National School Lunch (NSLP), School Breakfast Programs (SBP). Within both NSLP and SBP, we operate under the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). Schools qualifying to serve breakfast and lunch daily to all scholars at no charge.

Our menus follow the nutrition guidelines and serving sizes established by the federal nutrition guidelines for school meals. We encourage students to take what they want and eat what they take to fuel them for a day of learning and physical activity ahead, while also helping to reduce food waste.

We offer a wide variety of healthy, tasty breakfast and lunch options, served daily in the cafeterias at every AAPS school!

CEP - Community Eligibility Provision Students at schools using CEP may qualify for fee waivers for ACT and SAT tests, as well as fee reductions for all AP exams. Eligibility is based on family income level and several other indicators of economic need.

Austin Achieve Public School offers to all our scholars an expanded learning time program that is eligible for after school meal reimbursement through the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). CACFP is a USDA federally funded program that offers evening meals to all our campuses at no charge to its scholars. During this extended learning period, in the last hour of the school day, we provide our third meal service which is Supper. 

Supper is available Monday through Thursday for the entire school year.

Everyday, our staff, in the kitchen, prepares the supper that will be served that same evening. Each supper meal is whole grain-rich and is served with white milk as well as a variety of fruits and vegetables and a lot of care for our scholars to enjoy!

This At-Risk Afterschool Meal Program serves suppers in the classrooms and helps our scholars to get the nutritious meals they need in a safe and supervised location while drawing them into constructive activities that are safe, fun, and filled with opportunities for learning.   For many scholars, this is their only opportunity to access a healthy meal after the school day ends. 

Meals served at AAPS meet the nutrition requirements established by the CACFP. The standards for suppers served in the CACFP are based on: Dietary Guidelines for Americans, science-based recommendations made by the National Academy of Medicine, cost and practical considerations and input from stakeholders.
